Yosemite... more day 5

 I like the picture above simply because it show half dome and both waterfalls in a single picture

There were many beautiful flowers in the park.  The above picture is just one of many pictures of wildflowers.

Yosemite...day 5

Below...You've seen this waterfall before but from below it. I think this is a better view.

Below is a picture of half dome.  If you go here you can see a satellite view. Don't know how familiar you are with Google maps but once you get to the maps site go to the top, select More, and check the Photos box. That will show thumbnails so zoom in a little closer and click on one of the thumbnails on half dome.  That will open a small picture. Now double click on the small picture and that will bring up a larger view plus a lot of thumbnails in the upper left corner so you can look at pictures taken from half dome.  I would love to hike up there but it's a long trip and a rough trip.  If you click here (I hope the link works :) ) you can see some of what you have to go through to get there. How did that tree grow there.  Nature amazes me sometimes.

Yosemite - Day 4

Almost a perfect reflection...this is three pictures stitched together.

Different angle of the lake shown in a previous blog. This is also 3-4 pictures stitched together.

Now that is/was a tree.

Had my daughter stand in it to give a perspective of how big it is.

No Betsy, this does NOT qualify as a waterfall.

Mono Lake

I'm not sure whether this lake is part of Yosemite or  not but it is right next to it so we had to visit it of course.
Mono Lake is a lake in Mono County, California, formed at least 760,000 years ago as a terminal lake in a basin that has no outlet to the ocean. Because it lacks an outlet, dissolved salts make the lake very alkaline and salty. Mono Lake formed because it lies in the Mono Basin, an endorheic basin that has no outlet to the ocean. Dissolved salts in the runoff thus remain in the lake and raise the water's pH levels and salt concentration. The Mono Lake tributaries include Lee Vining Creek and Rush Creek.

Yosemite...day 2

These pictures are from our second day in Yosemite.  I kept showing pictures of Alaska until I got George and Betsy to go there....my next project is to get them to go west. :)  I show pictures in Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, etc in the last several blogs and now it's on to farther west.  When they see what they're missing they'll be planning a trip in the near future. :)

Yosemite National Park

In 2003 we went to CA for vacation.One of the first stops was Yosemite National Park. The first two pictures are not from the park but at some place we stopped along the way.  Yosemite is a beautiful park. If you want to see there are webcams located here that show different areas.  When we were there you could drive most places.  I believe it's more restrictive now and you have to take buses a lot of places.  There are some beautiful waterfalls (look here).  I don't how many we visited but we visited all the ones that were within reasonable walking distance.
