Around home

All of these pictures were taken from the top of a hill overlooking my brothers' homes.  I would love to have a  house sitting on top of that hill.  The land sold this past summer and I was hoping they would divide it into lots so I could bid on one but it all sold (for nearly $400,000).

Old Home Place

Old home place after a snow.  These are NOT my pictures. My sister-in-law, who is a wonderful person, took these for me.

Dreary day

All the pictures below (except the first one which was taken on the Blue Ridge Parkway) were taking on the Balsam Mountain Road in Smoky Mountain National Park.  As you can see it was a dark a dreary day so the pictures are not that great....not nearly as good as being there in person.  Even if the weather wasn't cooperative we still had a good time driving down this road.  I don't think we saw another car while we were driving it.

Tennessee

Recently went to visit my brothers in TN.  While I was there I made a trip to Pine Mountain State Park and hiked out to the chained rock. As you can see from the pictures below it was a foggy morning but was still very pretty. I know you've seen similar pictures on Betsy and George's blogs but a few more won't hurt. :)

And while I was there I also got to see my great nephew (my niece's little boy....I get relationships mixed up :: ) .  He is such a good little boy and loves to play outside.  My brother built him a tree house .... the first picture is him standing on the top deck.

Down home pictures

 This was taken just out the road from my younger brother's house.

 The above picture, along with the three below, were taken at my older brother's house. The flowers were absolutely gorgeous.

The picture above and below are where a house that Rose lived in and loved once stood.  As you can see someone burnt it down.

 

 The above house is about 300 to 400 feet from the one that burned and is where my oldest sister was born. My mom and dad lived in that house for a while.  My grandpa and grandma lived in the one that burned when mom and dad lived in the one above.

Fontana Dam

All of these pictures were taken at Fontana Dam, a TVA lake.  I believe the actual dam is in North Carolina.

Tennessee hills

The hills of Tennessee in all their splendor. :)  All of these pictures were taken in the area where Rose and I grew up. Since it's right on the border of TN,KY,VA some pictures show parts of all three states.

This is my last blog on my TN trip.  It just a collection of pictures I uploaded to Google/Picasa.  There may be repeats from my previous blogs.

A morning walk

I got out to go for a couple walks and the first thing I saw was these two cute deer about 150 feet from my brothers house. They heard me coming and run a little and then stopped to see what I was.

On down the railroad is this little house (Rose will recognize it).  I would like to know how many different people  have lived in it in my life time.

A little farther down is this view with the old farm house that was occupied when I was a kid but has been empty for years.

The picture below was taken from the cemetery where my baby brother(born dead) is buried.  I don't know exactly which grave is his since the grave is unmarked.

The picture below shows a little of the Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) campus where my niece works as an admissions counselor.  I actually went there a couple years before I came to Indiana.  It is a small school but has a very beautiful campus.

The picture below is taken towards my brother's and niece's house.

Old home place

 Of course while in TN I had to walk up to my old home place where I lived until I was 12.  The picture above was along the railroad as I walked.

 Of course you've probably seen this barn before because both Rose and I have shown it before. It gets in worse shape all the time....what a pity.  It is located on the place just before you get to the old home place.

 Both the picture above and all the pictures below were taken at our old home place.  I am always amazed how much all the stuff has grown and filled it.  What used to be a field in now a forest.
