End of the day

We got to Glacier National Park late in the day so we didn't get to explore much.  We essentially just drove through the park and the follow pictures are a sample of what we saw.
There were two or three bighorn sheep right along the road so we stopped and took some pictures of them.

The picture above shows a good view of the road as it winds around the mountain.

This is a picture of St Mary's lake.  As you can see the light is fading so it's not a very good picture.

The shot above and below are on the Many Glacier road where we were staying. Pictures like this is where I need a tripod because I cannot hold the camera still enough for the pictures to be good and sharp.

Many Glacier area

Here are a few shots from the next day.
We hike a trail just down the road from where our lodging was and the shot above is pretty typical of the scenery we saw while hiking.

This was a lake we came across while hiking.

Probably doesn't qualify as a water fall but it a pretty area.

After our hike we went to another lodging area where we stayed the last time we were there.  This is what we saw when  walking to the motel.

Looks like he's posing for us doesn't it?

This was just outside of the motel.

Later that day we saw the fellow below.

A good way to end the day in Glacier

As you can probably see these pictures were taken as the days comes to an end.  The grizzly in the first picture was far away so I couldn't get a good picture of him.  He was eating something but I couldn't tell even looking at him through my binoculars.  All the pictures were taken as we made our way back to our lodging place and the sun was getting low in the sky.

Running Eagle

This is an interesting waterfall.  The reason I say that is that it seems to come out of the face of a rock yet when the water gets high it also comes over the top.  The name of this waterfall in Running Eagle and it is in the Two Medicine area of Glacier.

Here is a couple short video clips of the fall.

Wildlife

As we concluded our first day and was going back to our motel we ran upon this fellow.  There were also some little ones in the area.  They were not wild at all.  As a matter of fact I was standing on a metal walk and this fellow came up to the walk and got on on it ahead of me.  He stood there for  a while before he decided to move.

A little farther on we ran upon the mommy grizzly and her cub swimming the lake.  She must have thought there was better eating on our side of the lake. :)

The next morning as we got up to head out on our second day we stopped where we had seen the  grizzlies the night before and lo and behold they were still in the area as you can see from the pictures below.

Avalanche Lake

Our second hike of the day was to Avalanche Lake.  They were doing construction near the trailhead and we like to never found a parking space because they had it all screwed up.  It was a nice hike.  When we got  to the lake we just set there and enjoyed it for a while.  The last shot of the water coming down the mountain is not a good shot but I still wanted to show it since I love seeing water flowing down a mountain.  When we got back to the car I was kind of pooped....between this trail and the Hidden Lake trail we had hiked almost 8 miles.  This was probably not a good way to start out but we survived it.

Hidden Lake

This is our first hike in Glacier.  It was a place that I had picked out early .... I wanted to go there for sure because I had seen pictures of it and thought it was beautiful.  The name of the trail was the Hidden Lake trail and it starts at the Logan Pass visitor center.  We didn't hike all the way to the lake but we did go to the overlook.  The Hidden Lake area is where a hiker disappeared the last part of July and they never have found his body.  The last picture is a panoramic shot and may have to be opened in a new tab to fully appreciate it.

Our first day!

The first morning we get up just about daylight, I get dressed and go outside and am met with the view in the first two pictures.  The sun was shining on these two peaks and it was very beautiful.

Above and below are shots taken a little later on the Many Glacier road.

I can't remember the name of this waterfall but we hiked down to it on our way to our first major hike of the trip.

Above is another shot taken along the way.

End of the day.

As you can see by the time we were getting to our motel it was getting dark.  It had been a long but enjoyable day. These pictures aren't the greatest, because it was so dark and I was trying to hold the camera still, but you can still see what a beautiful ending we had to our first day in Glacier.

Entered Glacier National Park

We got to Glacier NP late in the day after driving/sightseeing all the way from Spokane, WA.  Or lodging was all the  way on the other side of Glacier at Many Glacier.  Even though it is kind of out of the way and requires more driving we like it there because we just about always see wildlife on the road to Many Glacier.
Above:  This fellow was at Logan Pass in Glacier.  He was the only one there although later in the week there were several there, including some babies.

Not long after we saw the mountain goat above we ran upon this fellow.  He wasn't afraid of us at all....licking the asphalt a lot of the time.

As you can see from the shot above the sun is getting low in the sky.  If you will notice the car coming around the corner has its lights on.

You can see where the road goes in both the shot above and the shot below if you look closely.  The road in Glacier is NOT very wide and you  have to pay attention when driving.  There is a rock wall on the side so you can't run off the road and tumble forever but you sure could damage your car if you  don't pay attention.
