End of Denali

These are the last few pictures taken as we were leaving Denali. We went as far as you can go via vehicle into the park and that was to Wonder Lake.  There are some mighty nice picture of the Wonder Lake area located here.  They didn't give us much time to wander around so I don't know how anyone had time to get some of these pictures.

The road just traveled.  This is the road that we just traveled...thought it was kind of pretty in a way.

Not a good picture but you can at least see the sheep on the mountain side.

More pictures of the high one

The following is more pictures of either Denali or the mountains near Denali.  In a few of the pictures you can see clouds starting to move across between the mountain and where we were located. Finally, I embedded a video that goes right along with the way I feel when I look at these mountains.  I know George and Betsy have already seen it so my apologies to them.

The high one!!

Here's our first glimpse of Denali ("The High One") or Mt. McKinley as most of us know it.  We were so blessed that day.  You normally only have a 15-20% chance of seeing the mountain but that day it was bright and clear all day.  The pictures below speak for themselves so there's not much I can add.  The next day when we got up to leave it was pouring down rain and we drove in rain for a long ways.

Denali

These are some shots as we head into Denali National Park. The won't let you drive in but so far and if you want to go farther you have to take one of their buses. I would love to drive in there myself and stop and look where I wanted to. If you look at the last picture you will see (look closely :) ) 3 grizzlies in the picture. If I was driving myself I would have sat an watched them for a long time but riding the bus they stop a minute or two and then move on.

Mt Denali

Notice how the clouds were moving in front of Mt Denali (McKinley). These pictures were taken late in the day. The view had been completely clear but as you can see in these pictures a few clouds were starting to move in front of the mountain.

Mt McKinley or Denali

As mentioned in the previous blog we went into Denali National Park while in Alaska. One of the big attractions there is, of course, Mt. McKinley. The problem is that it generates it's own weather so the chances of seeing it is not that good (20-25 % is what they told us) because it's normally covered with clouds. However, on the day we were there it was visible for the whole day. It is so majestic and beautiful. The closest that you get to it on a tour is around 23 miles but it looks like it just 2-3 miles away. I read somewhere that it has the greatest rise of any mountain from it's base to the top. If you really want to see how majestic it really is you need to click on the images to enlarge them. I know I put up several but I couldn't decide which ones to upload and show so I just did a bunch of them.
