Natchez Trace Parkway -- IX

All these pictures are at the Ruins of Windsor near Port Gibson, MS.  It was an old plantation house and was used both by Union and Confederate troops.  It survived the war but was later destroyed by fire.  These columns have appeared in several motion pictures.

Oh, my!! Now why did they decide to leave these ruins up? Did this plantation house have much more signifigance than others? It is quite a sight!! I can almost see Rhett nad Scarlet dancing among the columns.

That must have been some plantation house. It certainly would have been nice to see it.

Hi Neal, Great post. I have seen pictures of the original mansion.. What a sight to behold. Too bad it burned --after being spared by the Union troops...

There was an old movie with Eliz. Taylor and Montgomery Cliff which featured the ruins I think... I thought Mont. Cliff was the 'cat's meow'..... ha ha

Home from vacation, and trying to catch up some...

Excellent photos...I have mixed emotions about the plantation house itself and what it stood for! While I can appreciate the beauty, I also understand at what price that beauty was bought.
