These pictures were taken in CA at
Mono Lake. Perhaps the most intriguing of Mono Lake's phenomena are the tufa towers shown in the above pictures. Tufa are made from calcium carbonate which makes its way into the lake from underground springs. The calcium and carbonate combine to form limestone which builds up over time around the lake bottom spring openings. There is a web cam that overlooks Mono Lake located

Neal, I am sorry--I thought you said you were skipping this week. I just got mine signed on when I got home from the dentist...and then took a vicadine...did not get on here again till late. I thought I better recheck your blog just to make sure...there these were and they are sure beauties. I couldn't pick a favorite if I had to.
