Independence mine

We went to Independence Mine State Park the next day.  I've always like to look at old mines and this one was a beauty.  The signs may not interest you at all but I found them interesting and thus the pictures.  It's hard to imagine working at a mine like this.  I've been watching the Alaska : Gold Rush series on TV so this blog comes at the right time.

I LOVE the picture with that one house in the foreground. Mines are very scary places nowadays, and these photos evoke a lot of feelings, destitution and desolation, death and beauty all at the same time!!

I would think you'd have to be a mighty hardy soul to live and work in a mine in cold Alaska and this looks so far from anything. :)

What amazes me about some of the old places is that some of the buildings left seem to be built so strong, straight and true...
