When we were in Yellowstone National Park last year we saw goats on the side of a mountain so we stopped and started watching them. We were standing there watching them when the goat in the pictures above came out on the very top of the mountain and stood there and watched for a while. It appeared as though he was a sentry because as the goats moved around on the mountainside below him he would disappear for a little while and then come back out to the ledge and stand there a watch for a while. It was really interesting to stand there and watch them

To my untrained eye, those look like bighorn sheep rather than mountain goats.
Still pretty neat.
The original indigenous people in Yellowstone were called the Sheepeater Indians; their favorite food was bighorn sheep, which were more numerous before Yellowstone became a national park.

I have seen these on the TV and was amazed by there surefootedness.. their seemed to get places a bird couldn't.. ha!
